Model development

Improving the efficient use of water in agricultural production and natural ecosystems is the current main research focus of the department. Research and engineering oriented models are developed which will simulate water transport processes in plant-soil-systems under different environmental conditions.

Modelling cropping systems

Significant efforts during the past decades have led to the formulation of crop models, which are now widely tested and applied under diverse environmental conditions. The department participates in these activities by producing validation data sets under the temperate climate conditions of North-Eastern Germany.

Systems analysis

East-European markets are currently in a stage of transition. Quantifying the corresponding effects on crop production systems is a challenging task, due to a multitude of factors being involved. The department participates in the faculty's ongoing activities targeted at improving East-European agrosystem management. Ways of applying computer-aided systems design are assessed.
